Jussi Sane is a Chief Specialist (Team Leader) at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Finland. Dr Sane in an epidemiologist and virologist (PhD) by training and a graduate from the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET). Dr Sane leads a team responsible for communicable disease preparedness and response. The team is developing and updating disease prevention and control guidelines, coordinating outbreak investigations, maintaining situational awareness and performing operational research. He is an adjunct professor of infectious disease epidemiology, research activities focusing on vector-borne and vaccine-preventable infections, and global health. Dr Sane has been actively involved in Finland’s contribution to the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and WHO Joint External Evaluation (JEE) process. He was involved in the JEE Tool development, has and participated in several JEE missions (team member or lead). He is also working in a bilateral aid project providing support in IHR implementation in Somaliland at the technical and policy level, stressing multisectoral approach.
